The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SSBS) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for an tenure-track assistant professor in Animal Behavior for the 2024-25 academic year, with the possibility of a January 2024 start. The successful candidate will join a collegial, engaged team of faculty and professional staff in a school offering programs in Animal Behavior, Applied Cultural Studies, Criminology, Global Studies, Neuroscience, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology.

Responsibilities

The school seeks candidates to teach undergraduate courses for the Animal Behavior program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach from among the following courses: Applied Animal Behavior, Introduction to Techniques in Animal Behavior, Animal Learning and Behavior, Biological Bases of Behavior, Introduction to Psychology, and courses in their area of specialization. The typical teaching load is the equivalent of 9 credits per semester. The successful candidate is expected to develop an active, independent, applied animal behavior research program involving undergraduate students that results in peer-reviewed dissemination of the work. Additionally, the successful candidate will also engage in curriculum development and participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment, and service to the school, college and University.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Animal Behavior or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment. The successful applicant will demonstrate capacity for excellence in teaching and a strong or promising record of scholarly productivity. Priority will be given to candidates whose interests include applied animal behavior and who complement existing program strengths in ecological, evolutionary and comparative perspectives on animal behavior.
