Graduate Student Position @ Purdue University: Human-Animal Interaction

Description 

A position is available for a highly motivated graduate student with Dr. Leanne Nieforth at the Center for the Human-Animal Bond at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. The research program will focus on biopsychosocial outcomes of human-canine and human-equine interactions. The successful applicant will be involved in experimental design, data collection and analysis, and scientific writing. The applicant will work closely with collaborators and will mentor undergraduate research assistants.  

Qualifications & Skills  

Interested applicants must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to human-animal interaction (e.g., psychology, human development and family studies, public health, epidemiology, veterinary medicine, communication, education, biology, zoology, sociology, animal sciences). The ideal applicant will also have strong interpersonal and communication skills.  

 

We are seeking candidates with a range of skills, which may include but is not limited to: 

  • Psycho-physiology Experience (e.g., salivary cortisol, microbiome, ecological momentary assessment) 

  • Project Management Experience (e.g., developing and executing experimental protocols, participant recruitment and retention, management of research data) 

  • Mentorship Experience (e.g., undergraduate research assistants) 

  • Writing Experience (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, grant writing) 

  • Software Experience (e.g., REDCap, R, SAS, Qualtrics) 

The position will start in January (Spring) or August (Fall) 2025. It will be full-time with the expectation of graduation within four years (PhD). There may be opportunities to start sooner if interested.
