Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Behavioral Husbandry Zoological Manager, this position will be responsible for assisting area operations managers, veterinarians, nutritionists, zoological mangers, scientists, aquarists and keepers in implementation of applied behavioral analysis techniques to achieve behavioral management goals. The Behavioral husbandry team is part of a larger animal care team, sitting within the science team alongside the husbandry, health and nutrition teams for Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment. This role may apply to any location where Disney cares for animals, but is based at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

This is a Part-Time role requiring weekday availability.


In this role, you will report to the Zoological Manager of Behavioral Husbandry. Responsibilities:

As the Behavior Analyst, in partnership with the Behavioral Husbandry Zoological Managers, you will:

  • Be responsible for guiding design and implementation of behavior analysis techniques in support of evidence-based behavior management programs globally in ASE and in the zoological industry.

  • Support animal care teams and other partners in following the BH vision, mission, philosophy, and commitments.

  • Maintain effective communications and relationships between the animal care teams and BH.

  • Create functional analyses and other behavior-analytic procedures as requested and assists teams through the process.

  • Create staff development opportunities in the skill of behavior management, as well as promoting awareness of external learning opportunities.

  • Translate scientific principles of behavior to practical applications by helping teams analyze and understand the motivations behind behaviors, modify behaviors and create solutions to motivate desirable behaviors.

  • Provide resources (time, budgeting, technical needs, etc.) that help maintain and assist in the progression of BH programs.

  • Communicate effectively and partners on projects with other disciplines on the Behavior Sciences team.

  • Maintains ongoing contact with advances in the field of behavior analysis and their applications in the zoological field.

  • Fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment for both humans and animals.

  • Cultivates a culture where everyone seeks to understand different viewpoints and embraces learning from others.

  • Provides leadership support and participates in the pursuit of team strategic goals.

  • Partners with other disciplines of the science team to problem solve and provide evidence when investigating behavioral issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an AZA-accredited zoo or aquarium setting, including training, enrichment, and/or other behavior-specific work.

  • Strong commitment to a modern philosophy around Behavioral Husbandry.

  • Outstanding partnership skills including

    • verbal and written communication

    • collaborative project planning, management and completion

    • relationship building and management

    • problem solving and decision making

    • strategic thinking and prioritization


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applied Operant Conditioning experience.

Required Education:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in behavior analysis, or psychology with a behavior analysis focus.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree from an ABAI-accredited program.
